A one-day workshop exploring the connections between the biblical story of the exodus of the the people of Israel from oppression in Egypt and the Irish experience of the Anglo Irish Bank and the bank bailout.

In so many ways throughout our day God is just waiting to burst out and show us how much we are loved through each passing moment. In these sessions we learn how to slow down and read the language of God in our everyday experience. Through music, dance, prayer and reflection together these sessions help us to move into the depths of God in our everyday lives.

These four sessions are designed with small groups in mind who would like to journey through Advent reflecting on the Advent Gospels. They are ideal for groups who would like to meet on a few occasions before Christmas and explore some of the richness of the Christmas story. The reflection on the Gospel texts help tap into our own experience of this joyful season.

The Scapegoat Workshop with Dave Donnellan

Scapegoating continues to be a foundational dynamic in human interactions. In this workshop on the eve of Passion Week we look at how the Passion Narrative for the first time in human history definitively revealed this mechanism to us in all its detail. In this participative and experiential workshop, in addition to a short input on Rene Girard, participants will be given an opportunity to explore their own experience of the topic. Using the work of Rene Girard to guide us we will look at the origin of the Scapegoat Mechanism, how scapegoating affects human interactions and the challenge of moving beyond scapegoating.

Dave Donnellan is a member of the Partners in Faith adult faith education team. Over the past six years he has made a special study of the work of Girard and more recently presented a paper at the Colloquium on Violence and Religion, the annual Girard conference, applying Girardian theory to the Corrib Gas controversy.
